My mother was told by a friend to write a story that started "Once there was a rock" and to keep writing until it came to a natural ending. The point of this whole exercise was to gain insight into how you see yourself. In most cases, when people write this story, they are portraying themselves as the rock. I had the opportunity to read my mother's story, and then decided to write my own. I am going to share the story I wrote today.

Once there was a rock, and this rock wanted nothing more than to be a rock with a great purpose. He wanted to serve. But being a rock, he was very limited. So he prayed.

He said, "Dearest Heavenly Father, I know of your power to shape things into what their greatest potentials are, and I pray that I may be of service to you and your children. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

Heavenly Father heard his prayer, but chose not to tell the rock his plan, he would show him. The next day, Heavenly Father sent a great earth quake. The rock was thrown from his comfortable position and landed in the valley.

The rock, feeling very bruised and shaken quietly cried, " Why would you throw me down and crack me? I have no potential to be useful now. I am too broken to be useful." The rock cried for a while more, and then a man started to approach the broken rock. He looked at the rock and was amazed by the beauty he saw. He had seen the rock on the hill before and it looked so dirty and rough. But now, the man could see the beautiful inside of the rock. He loaded it into his wagon and drove it to the prophet.

He said, "Look at this amazing rock."

The prophet responded, "I knew you would come with this rock." They were preparing to build a new temple and needed a strong foundation, they used the rock and the rock thanked Heavenly Father for breaking him so he could rise to his full potential.

The End.

It's kind of a weird story, but I see now what my mom was saying. We can see ourselves as the rock. And many times in life, we need to be broken before we can be used in the way we are needed.

Yesterday, my dad received a text from my brother saying they were stuck in Moon Lake and they needed us to come help them. We dropped what we were doing and went up to rescue them. They had went up there to find a place to go sledding and tried to turn around and their four-wheel drive wouldn't engage. Soon after that, their car wouldn't go into drive or reverse. We tried everything we could to make the car work.

After a while, we decided to give up and call a tow truck. While we were moving their stuff into our vehicle another person they texted showed up and got in the car to try. We were all shocked because he was able to back it right out. After that, he got out and we asked him what his secret was and his response was priceless. He said, "Jesus." We all laughed, but I knew that everything happened in a planned way. This trial taught each of us something important.

I am so thankful for the power of prayer. Thank you for reading. I hope you are all able to have a wonderful Holy Sabbath Day.

Life Plans

We all have life plans. Some people's plans are more extreme than others. For example, my life plan is to serve a 2 year LDS mission...
